Geranium ‘Tanya Rendall’

Description

Flowers: May-November.  Plant in sun or light shade.  HxS 15x30cm

G. ‘Tanya Rendall’ is a Geranium traversii ‘Elegans’ x Geranium sessiliflorum hybrid, crossed with an unknown Geranium x oxonianum.  Geranium ‘Tanya Rendall’ was bred in the Orkney Islands by Richard Rendall and named after his daughter.  It is a compact form, smothered with 1.5cm intensely coloured dark red flowers with a white eye bleeding into the petal.  The petals are notched and distinctly separate and the foliage is reddish when young, turning dark olive green as the season progresses.  This is an ultra hardy plant, having been exposed to harsh Orkney winters.  It is suitable for the front of border, rockery or will grow well on walls.  Like all Cranesbills it is and pest and disease resistant. Pot size 1.5 litre.

Care & Maintenance.

Remove old or damaged leaves in spring.  We find a winter mulch to be beneficial.  Not an easy plant to propagate which is why it is micropropagated.  Patient gardeners will be able to use stem cuttings to propagate it.
