Penlan Perennials was founded in 1998 on an 14 acre smallholding in the Ceri Valley, near Newcastle Emlyn in West Wales.  In 2018 Richard Cain retired after 20 years at the helm of this unique business and it was taken over by Julie & Graham Moore, who moved the business to their smallholding near Llanybydder and began expansion, whilst staying with the founding principle of chemical-free and peat-free plant production.  Plants are ‘hard grown’ outside in open stock beds, or in shade tunnels, so are ultra hardy and used to heavy winter rainfall and sub-zero temperatures.  All our plants are raised using environmentally friendly methods, peat-free compost and no chemical sprays.  Recycled materials are used for packaging and these can be recycled again by you.  The photo below is a typical (1.5 litre) mail order plant sent out by us with a 30cm (1ft) ruler for comparison.

Epimedium perralchicumOur main business is year round mail order although the nursery is open by prior appointment.  You can also buy from us at Plant Fairs we attend.

Our corporate clients range from Botanical Gardens, the Royal Horticultural Society, the National Trust, Local Authorities, landscape and garden designers to countless keen amateur gardeners.  We have also successfully exported plants to every EU country as well as supplying plants for the Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court, Tatton, RHS Cardiff and Southport Flower Show.  It has become increasingly clear that gardening with and for nature is very important to many gardeners and we are particularly pleased with the positive and complimentary responses to our website and the quality of our plants.

We send occasional email newsletters with nursery news, special offers and discounts which do not otherwise appear on the website.  You can subscribe to this at any time and just as easily unsubscribe if you wish!  See our privacy policy if you are concerned about how we use any information you give us.

Finally ~ We always try to maintain the quality of plants and standard of service we feel you have a right to expect. The person you speak to on the phone or who answers your email is the same person that grows your plants, nurtures them, does the paperwork and dispatches your order!
