Flowers: July-August.  Plant in part shade.  HxS 75x30cm

The Turk’s Cap Lily is now naturalised in many woodlands and hedgerows of Southern Britain.  It bears multiple stems of flowers in shades of pink to purple with darker spots.  It is base rooting and tolerant of most soils, including lime.  The occasional plant may be the rarer white-flowered form as we raise these from seed.  It grows best where the root is in shade and moist soil.  AGM.  Hardiness rating H7.

Care & Maintenance.

Clear the old flower stems in autumn, by twisting and then gently pulling.  This seems to prevent winter wet running down into the rhizome.  Propagate by seed or by removing smaller pieces or rhizome as they break in spring.
