Flowers: June-October.  Plant in sun or part to full shade.  HxS 75x75cm

‘Ruby Star’ is a new clump-forming hybrid with divided, palmate, dark green leaves.  It has purple-flushed, branching stems bearing umbels of dark red flowerheads surrounded by large, black-tipped, dark red bracts.  At its best in moist, fertile, humus-rich soil in sun for best foliage colour.  We have found it performs well in heavy, clay soil but is also tolerant of other soil types, – anything except light sandy soil.

An extremely versatile plant and highly rated by Bob Brown, of Cotswold Garden Flowers, who thinks it is better than ‘Ruby Wedding’ or ‘Hadspen Blood’,  poor growers but the best of the other reds.  We can get it to flower all summer and autumn by regular deadheading and cutting back.

Care & Maintenance.

Deadheading maintains continuous flowering and prevents inferior seedlings.  Water well until established, especially if placed in sunny or dry conditions.  It is fairly easy to propagate by division in spring – new plants may take a season to become established. Pest and disease resistant.
