Pontederia cordata is a marginal aquatic perennial or a bog plant.  It forms good clumps of erect, lance-shaped, bright green leaves (up to 18cm/9in in length), producing dense erect spikes of tubular deep blue flowers in late summer. This plant gives interesting foliage and valuable late colour for waterside locations, or as a marginal in the pond itself.  Hardiness rating H5.

Cut back in late autumn, but only divide in spring.  It can be seed raised.
