This species is native to southern China and Myanmar (Burma), where it grows in meadows, on stream sides, hillsides and forest margins. The velvety flowers are almost black with a small yellow splash on the falls and are smaller than other bog iris flowers, however they are borne in profusion, up twenty per plant. It is best grown in a moist soil which does not dry out in summer. AGM. Pot size 1.5 litre. Hardiness rating H6.
Care & Maintenance
Collect and sow seed to propagate or careful divide rhizomes of established plants in spring. An easy plant to grow once established.
