Japanese Blood Grass is the most brilliantly coloured of the grasses, with a red pigment which develops throughout the season, being most intense in late summer and autumn when the silvery flower panicles appear.  It is spectacular when well placed.  Introduced from Japan, via the USA, by Kurt Bleumel, it prefers a moist but well drained soil. Hardiness zone H4. Pot size 9cm.

Care & Maintenance.

Split every three to four years to maintain vigour. H4 hardiness so mulch the crown if you live in a cold area. Cut back hard in spring, which is also the best time to split and divide.
