Flowers: May-July.  Plant in sun or light shade.  HxS 60x30cm

Primula beesiana is a Chinese candelabra primula with whorls of lilac-magenta flowers on tall stems.  Discovered in 1906 in the Li-chiang range of mountains in Yunnan, by the plant hunter George Forrest, who also found Primula bulleyana.  It enjoys a wet or boggy soil, where it performs well, and is very effective when placed near water.  It grows best in a sunny spot but will tolerate some shade, although plants then tend to be shorter.  Easy to grow and hybridises readily with other species.  AGM.  Hardiness rating H6. Pot size 9cm.

Care & Maintenance.

Clear old foliage in autumn.  In spring seedlings often appear around the plant and these can be potted and grown on.  You can also collect seed, which germinates readily, or lift and split well established clumps.
