Leaves turn from a deep green to bronze in winter. Flowers are almost double, opening white or pinky-red and ageing to a dark red. Unless deadheaded the old flowers persist through winter. Plants continue to flower all summer giving and look particularly effective on banks and the tops of walls, forming mats of groundcover which weeds find difficult to penetrate. Although it does spread we have not found it invasive. Tolerant or most soils and some shade.
