This perennial, native to woodland mountains in Honshu, has a rhizomatous root system which makes it a good ground cover for slopes. Leaves are deeply lobed, olive green and glossy. The flowers are bell-shaped and creamy white to greeny-yellow, and the plant thrives in rich, moist soil, in shady spots. Evergreen in mild winters.
